Safety of Electro-Convulsive Therapy in Combination with Duloxetine in Treatment-resistant Depressive Patients: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Background: There are several strategies in the management of treatment-resistant depression (TRD), including administration other antidepressants, augmentation therapy, electro-convulsive therapy (ECT), and a combination ECT antidepressants. The safety combined with any medication must be confirmed. aim this study was to assess duloxetine therapy. Materials Methods: In randomized clinical trial, probable side effects plus were compared sertraline two groups admitted TRD patients. Patients general medical diseases and/or contraindications or drugs excluded. General effects, nausea, vomiting, headache reported by patients (hours after ECT) as well cardiotoxicity electrocardiogram (immediately episode), cognitive status mini-mental state examination (MMSE, one month last ECT), seizure duration recorded for each patient. Results: No significant differences observed headache, myalgia between ECT+duloxetine ECT+sertraline groups. Heart rate, QTc interval, ST-T change, incidence arrhythmia same arms study. Also, no prolonged seizures epilepticus among studied MMSE revealed marked Conclusion: equally safe TRD.
